In 2024 the Paleontological Research Institution began a project to become a Resilience Hub for our local Ithaca community in the face of more extreme weather. The climate in Tompkins County, NY is changing, bringing increased threats from extreme rainfall and flooding, extreme heat, and wildfires and wildfire smoke, among other hazards. We provide resilience education and are developing ways to use our facilities for the public during extreme weather events.

We are dedicated to Earth science and environmental education. The Community Accessibility Program (CAP) was developed and continues to grow, based on our community’s needs and our capacity to fill them, to ensure that Earth science and environmental education is available to everyone regardless of resources or special needs. Our Community Accessibility Program includes monthly Pay-What-You-Wish Weekends, Museums for All, agency memberships, and more.
